How To Wash is a fun educational fact sheet aimed at primary Key Stage 1 pupils.

At the Bathroom Manufacturers Association (BMA) we are passionate about promoting water efficiency and believe it’s vital to teach our children the importance of using water wisely, whilst maintaining sanitation and hygiene.

Hygiene and sanitation are vital for promoting good health and it’s important we reduce water wastage. The population of Britain has doubled and due to climate change we have less water. It’s important that we teach our children now how to use our most precious resource wisely to ensure future supply is maintained.

The How To Wash pack contains a fact sheet, line drawing to colour in, lesson aid and supplementary information.

A competition is being run starting in the South East, which includes Bedfordshire, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Cambridgeshire, Dorset, Essex, Hampshire, Hertfordshire, Kent, London, Middlesex, Norfolk, North Somerset, Oxfordshire, Suffolk, Surrey, Sussex and Wiltshire as these are the areas with the greatest water problem.

The competition will be rolled out through schools in other areas at a later date – contact the BMA for more information.

In the areas mentioned above the competition is being held in conjunction with the utility company Three Valleys Water who has been supplying water for more than 130 years. The winning class from these areas will win a wonderful day out to the Environment & Education Centre at Clay Lane in Bushey, including transport, lunch and a goodie bag for each pupil.

Children should be encouraged to colour-in the line drawing as carefully as possible using a variety of colours. Judges will be looking for good colour selection and neatness.

The closing date for all entries to be in by is 20th January 2008

Happy colouring and good luck!
